While his background was originally in the broadcast media, he is self taught in photography and related computer imaging. Gary turned an interesting and creatively expressive hobby into a full time profession in 1984. Since then he has photographed families, children, and weddings, plus provided other photographic services including passports, commercial and industrial photography and graphic design.
He spends his personal time creating images of local scenes and fine art images 'out and about' using digital imaging technologies. While he enjoys working with people, the works in his exhibitions are more artistic and interpretive in their concept, approach, and execution. His fine art imagery exploits his 'photographic vision' using a wide ranges of styles themes and impressions.
Gary has worked with 120 medium format and 35 mm, film cameras and his black and white darkroom. Now he is fully engaged with the digital technology. The digital camera, computers, and specialized software are just more creative tools to use to produce a wide variety of expressive imagery.
He is a founding director of the newly formed North Perth Arts and Culture Council, NPACC as well as co-convenor of the Artist Studio Tour in North Perth and area.
Gary lives in Listowel, where he owns and operates Moonlighting Photography Studio and Gallery, and Gary D Moon Productions.
