  1. Internet Setup Assistant

    First, search for the Internet Setup Assistant by selecting the desktop (click in a blank area on your desktop), then choose File Find from the menu bar at the top.

    Select the hard drive icon and type internet setup into the search field. Click the magnifying glass to begin the search.

    One of the search results should be the "Internet Setup Assistant". Double-click on it.

  2. Use the Internet?

    Click Yes to begin the setup procedure.

  3. Internet account?

    Click Yes to confirm that you already have an Internet account.

  4. Introduction

    Click the right arrow to being entering configuration information.

  5. Configuration name

    Type in porchlight.ca for the configuration name.  Then select Modem and click the right arrow to proceed.

  6. Modem Settings

    The default modem settings should be fine.  Ensure that your modem and your phone line characteristics are selected.  If you live in a rural area without touch tone phone support, you may need to select Pulse.

    Click the right arrow to proceed.

  7. Configuration Information

    First type in the ten digit dial-up access number for the city that you are currently local to.  These are listed in a table below.  Then enter your user name and password.

    Click the right arrow to proceed.

  8. PPP Connect Scripts

    PPP connect scripts are not needed. Select No, then click the right arrow to proceed.

  9. IP Address

    The IP address will be server assigned. Select No, then click the right arrow to proceed.

  10. Domain Name Servers

    DNS information does not need to be entered.  Simply leave the existing DNS addresses as "0.0.0.0" and the Domain name blank. Click the right arrow to proceed.

  11. E-Mail Address and Password

    Now enter your email address and password.  Your email address will be your user name@porchight.ca.

    Click the right arrow to proceed.

  12. Email servers

    The POP email account is pop.porchlight.ca, and the SMTP host is mail.porchlight.ca.

    Click the right arrow to proceed.

  13. Newsgroup server

    Type in news.porchlight.ca for the NNTP server, then click the right arrow to proceed.

  14. Proxies

    Proxy servers will not be used. Select No, then click the right arrow to proceed.

  15. Conclusion

    This completes the Internet Setup Assistant. Click Go Ahead to finalize the settings.
