Windows 95 - Dial-Up Networking
  1. Dial-up Networking

    First click Start Programs Accessories Dial-Up Networking.



  2. Make New Connection

    Double-click on "Make New Connection".



  3. Connection name

    Type in porchlight.ca for the connection name and Next to proceed.



  4. The dial-up access number

    Now enter the ten digit dial-up access number for your calling area into the Telephone number box.  These are listed in a table below.

    The area code and country code fields will later be disabled, so don't worry if they are incorrect at this time.

    Click Next to proceed.

  5. Finish

    Click the Finish button to complete the wizard.



  6. Porchlight properties

    Right-click on the newly created porchlight.ca connection and choose Properties from the drop-down list.



  7. Properties

    Uncheck "Use area code and country code".  This will ensure that your modem will only dial the number that is in the telephone number box.



  8. Server Types

    Now switch to the Server Types tab and uncheck the following:
    • Log on to network
    • NetBEUI
    • IPX/SPX Compatible




    Click Ok to finalize the settings.


  9. Create Shortcut

    Now right-click on porchlight.ca again.  This time, select Create Shortcut.



  10. Confirmation

    You should be presented with a confirmation pop-up. Click Yes to have the shortcut placed on the desktop.



  11. Finished

    You should now have a shortcut to your porchlight.ca connection on your desktop.  You can connect to the Internet by double-clicking on it.
